Join us for our upcoming 2024 Learning Series, Beyond the Basics: Amplifying Your Suicide Prevention Efforts. A new take on our annual conference, this year's event offers four individual sessions that highlight actionable insights on how to level up your suicide prevention efforts.

Attendees will learn about the impact of racial and cultural barriers on help-seeking behavior, mental health in high-performing collegiate athletes, suicide best practices for K-12 schools, and how to provide support after a suicide. Whether you are maximizing a new prevention program or expanding existing ones, Beyond the Basics will help you provide a greater level of support to the individuals you serve.

Each live, interactive session is eligible for continuing education credits and will be held via Zoom webinar. Register for all four sessions ($129) or your choice of two ($72).

Understanding Suicide Through the Cultural Lens

Suicide rates among minoritized youth and adults are increasing at an alarming rate, yet most mental health professionals are inadequately educated on the impact of racial and cultural barriers on help-seeking behavior.

Our panel of experts will identify how racism and discrimination are additional risk factors when seeking mental health support, describe evidence-informed approaches to support minoritized populations, and offer examples of culturally-specific idioms of distress.

This session is appropriate for mental health clinicians, school and university professionals, and community members who support people of color who may be struggling with suicidal ideation or behaviors.

Mental Health in Collegiate Athletics: Reducing Suicide Risk and Improving Care for High Performers

Suicide is the second most common cause of death among college students and an identified concern among high-performing college athletes. Playing sports provides both rewards and protective factors, yet also brings unique pressures which can impact student athletes' mental health. While many colleges and universities provide systems of care for their general students, they are often underutilized by student-athletes raising the need for team-specific, accessible resources.

In this expert discussion, we'll uncover:

The most common mental health issues for student-athletes and how they can be supported through individual and group efforts.
The ways in which team and departmental culture impact well-being, help-seeking, and suicide prevention efforts.
How to build, from the ground up, suicide prevention and mental health programs that provide critical pathways of support.

Beyond SOS: Tangible Suicide Prevention Best Practices and Policy Recommendations for School Leaders

Dr. Mueller will share sustainable, effective, and equitable strategies to improve suicide prevention in your school. Her research focuses on tangible changes that can be made today to foster a culture of belonging, adopt a whole-child educational philosophy, and prioritize mental health within an MTSS framework.

Learn from her findings as a researcher embedded in schools for 5 years surrounded by caring, thoughtful professionals all asking the same questions:

How can we build connectedness in schools and communities that facilitates a sense of belonging and effective help-seeking among youth?
How can we build better mental health safety systems in schools and communities to help youth who are struggling to improve suicide prevention?

Managing Sudden Loss in Schools, Communities, and Workplaces

Sadly, experiences of sudden loss impact many of us in all walks of life. This session will focus on helping respond to those losses as they impact "systems" - schools, organizations, agencies, workplaces, etc.

We will share guiding principles for responding to those losses, strategies for communicating the loss, navigating common dilemmas that arise, and specifics about supporting people experiencing grief and/or trauma as a result of the event.

100% attendance is required to obtain full CE credit. No partial credit can be given. Attendance is confirmed via Zoom attendance reporting. After completing the training, participants will be provided a link to complete the CE Evaluation and indicate which CE they are requesting. Please allow time for us to confirm attendance.

Once certificates are available, participants who successfully complete all CE requirements will be notified by email and given further instructions to access their certificate via our learning management system, DigitalChalk. For virtual trainings, social workers are also required to prove they paid attention by passing a posttest in Digital Chalk.

Can you provide more detail on how the event will work?

This year’s learning series is comprised of four sessions, with one, two-hour session held per month from January through April. For a comprehensive learning experience, we encourage attendees to register for all four sessions; however, we understand some topics may be more relevant to specific audiences than others. To that end, attendees will have the option to purchase access to two sessions of their choice at a discounted rate. All four sessions offer CE credit, with event reminders and follow-up surveys sent to attendees before and after each session.

When will I get my confirmation email and Zoom links?

You will receive confirmation of your purchase within 2 days. Your Zoom link will be sent to you during the week prior to each session.

Can I pay by check or purchase order?

If you would like to register and pay by check or purchase order, please select your preferred method of payment at checkout. Visit our shop to make your purchase.

I purchased a ticket for two sessions - can I change the sessions I want to attend?

No, registered sessions for this event are not interchangeable.

Can I register for just one session?

Not at this time. If you’re only interested in one session, we recommend registering for the Two Session series and only attending that specific session.

Is there a deadline for purchasing tickets?

Yes, the deadline for purchasing tickets is Thursday, January 4, 2024.

Do you offer scholarships or registration discounts?

Scholarships and registration discounts are not currently available for this event.

Will the event be recorded and available for viewing later?

Yes, learning series sessions will be recorded* and registered attendees may access the recordings after each session. CEs are only available for those attending live learning series sessions, not for viewing recordings

What do I need to do to get CE credit?

If you are requesting CE credits, your Zoom display name during the event must match exactly with the name you would like on your CE certificate. We will need to see your name in Zoom to confirm attendance.

After the event, you will be emailed a survey to provide your CE discipline information.

After the learning series, when will I get my CE certificate?

Participants who successfully complete all CE requirements will be eligible to download their CE Certificates directly from our learning management system Digital Chalk within 30 days following the conclusion of each session.

Do you offer CE for other professional disciplines?

Riverside Community Care is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor education for Psychologists. We also offer CEs through the National Board of Certified Counselors, the National Association of Social Work MA Chapter, Massachusetts Association for Marriage & Family Therapy, and the MA Board of Registration in Nursing. Please check with your professional licensing board to confirm whether they will accept CEs from any of these organizations. Most will accept CEs from APA.
